Mold Filling

Mold filling is the starting point of the casting process and has a great influence on the quality of the resulting components.
For that reason the boundary and flow conditions are precisely defined and influencing factors, e.g. pulling of a ladle stopper, tilting of a ladle, turning of core package after mold filling, definition of a stated pressure curve or plunger motion during pressure die casting are not approximated, but rather realistically defined and calculated.

There are various criteria for assessment of the mold filling, e.g.

  • filter effect
  • distribution of inoculant
  • temperature
  • entrained air
  • endangerment of oxide skin
  • calculation of erosion
  • pressure
  • velocity
  • turbulences
  • etc.
